Introduction

Total qualification time: 12 hours

Learners will cover the following:

Unit 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

Be able to assess an emergency situation safely

Be able to provide first aid for an infant and child who is unresponsive

Be able to provide first aid for an infant and child who are choking

Be able to provide first aid for an infant or a child with external bleeding

Know how to provide first aid for an infant or a child who is suffering from shock

Know how to provide first aid for an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries

Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies

Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints

Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds

Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning

Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis

Qualification Structure

This course covers two units, and will be a blended learning approach. The face-to-face day will be 7 hours in person, with online study (6 hours) been completed prior to your face-to-face date. The online learning is self directed, with 1-2-1 guidance from your allocated tutor/assessor, and is to be completed prior to your face-to-face date. Practical assessments will be undertaken continuously over the day. The learning will be fun and engaging, delivered by experienced tutors and Assessors.
